Game Helps Autistic Children's Treatment

Children with autism tend to be apathetic to the surrounding environment. A unique way has also been developed to assist these children to communicate, namely through a computer game.

Studio animator who designed the cartoon computer game is Catalyst Video. They developed a computer game called Space Place for persons with autism. 12 presents a story that focuses on the relationship between emotions and facial expressions.

By Nik Lever, managing director of Catalyst, children with autism have problems with the introduction of emotion. The game is expected to provide a tool for parents and teachers to build the capacity of empathy in children with autism.

"By using the tools of this kind on a regular basis, children with autism can develop sensitivities and emotions so that they can apply in different situations," said Lever, as quoted from the Tameside Advertiser, Friday (25/07/2008).

Lever further added that bearing children with autism will likely range of programs like Thomas the Tank Engine and Roary the Racing Car. We provide it on the internet. While watching, they can improve their social skills.

Space Place the Review by psychologist Dr Janine Spencer, who founded the Centre for Research in Infant Behaviour Brune's lab at the University.

"Space Place is fantastic, the characters facial expressions show emotion is important to corroborate the story," said Dr Janine Spencer.
